The sky above was painted in a palette of sunset hues, drifting through faint, windswept clouds, as the shoreline purred in its pursuit of them. The oscillating waves became a rhythmic pull — back and forth — as their paws dipped into the shallows.
For a world engulfed in such horrors that the pair of them had seen, it certainly was a welcome respite where the wolves could finally just be.
No monsters drifting through the shadows, peering at them through hungry, rabid eyes. Instead, it seemed they were rewarded for their efforts as a gentle breeze caressed their sides, pulling them closer toward the coral reefs beyond.
Look! The wind seemed to whisper in your ears, Look! In the water!
And surely as you crane your attention toward the shifting waves, the shadows of sunset now blanketing the once clear surface, you spot the faint but pulsing blue light.
A rune.
It is there.
Nestled between the corals, like a clownfish in an anemone, buried deep within the reef.
Logic tells you to wait till sunrise, knowing very well of the dangers that lurk within the reefs. However, a different part of you urges your paws forward, as if a hidden knowledge is reminding you: if you don’t get it now, the rune will be gone by sunrise.
Still, the sunset remains across the horizon, an hourglass counting the kernels of sand before darkness surrounds you both. You don’t have long to find the Rune, nor daylight to keep you safe from a mishap within the reef.
The choice is yours: Brave the dangers of the coral reef, or turn back now and leave the rune behind.
