She was unaware of being approached, of the quiet steps of her mother, which still hurt her. She was unaware of Kirian's worries, either, that the girls were struggling and feeling neglected. Saorlaith felt unmoored, something deep had shifted once her happy little family image was shattered. Her zips, her little connection to the spirits she didn't yet understand, they had never left her before. She felt an anxious tremble run the length of her spine, running all the way down her legs and even her tail, the tip twitching sharply behind her. The things that she had always known were now not known at all.

She did not understand the little dance of lights that seemed to hover near her were spirits. She did not have the perception or experience to know that those little whispers that occasionally tickled in the back of her mind came from somewhere. And those whispers wanted her closer. Closer to where, she did not know. But she would hear them beg and plead 'come with us, child!' but she knew somehow that where they wanted her to follow she could not go. Not yet.

But she could almost see the veil as it shimmered between the world of the living and the dead. She could take a step closer, she could listen to them like a good girl, if it meant that her brother and mother would be okay. She took a gulp of a swallow, startling when Kirian spoke to her. Immediately, the girl nuzzled into the soft pale of Kirian's coat. Mama, Saorlaith started, blue eyes closing in a little surrender. She didn't want to see the look on her mother's face yet. I....I thought if I offered then.....then Faolan could be okay. You could be okay. The little girl said softly. Even though she did not understand everything of the world she lived in and the world she felt nearby, the feeling of how wrong it was to even suggest such a thing.

She had yet to understand the gravity of the bartering, she did not know that even stepping a foot closer to the spirit would not necessarily lift her brother up. The spirits would not be honest in such a barter either.
